The Church of the Prophet Elias stands on Hacı Murat Sokağı, in the Muratreis neighbourhood of Üsküdar, and belongs to the Metropolis of Chalcedon. The present church was built in 1804 and repaired in 1831, 1851 and 1997; a Greek marble inscription above the door to the nave records the 1804 construction and the 1831 repair.

It is a three-aisled masonry basilica with two rows of eight columns, set in a walled courtyard, and together with its large garden it is among the largest Greek Orthodox churches in Istanbul. The church’s holy spring (ayazma) is thought to predate 1804 and was repaired in 1945. The community also had a Prophet Elias school.
