The church of St Nicholas stands in Topkapı, in a courtyard enclosed by a high wall, on the road to Sulukule. According to Reşad Ekrem Koçu’s İstanbul Ansiklopedisi, it was built in 1750, burned in 1874 and was thoroughly repaired some time later. It is a single-nave masonry building with a tiled roof, and its masonry bell tower rises above the garden gate in the wall facing the street. The floor of the narthex is paved with gravestones bearing Greek inscriptions, of unknown origin, and in one corner of the narthex lies the well of the holy spring.
