The church appears in lists of the churches of Constantinople from 1583 and 1593. The earlier church was destroyed by fire, and the present building was constructed in 1834, as an inscription in the narthex records. Its iron bell tower carries a bell cast in Istanbul in 1905. The church contains the holy spring of St Sebastian; on his feast day, 18 December 2025, the Ecumenical Patriarch presided at the liturgy.
