The Kuruçeşme (Xirokrini) community maintains two churches, St Demetrios and St John the Forerunner. According to Reşad Ekrem Koçu’s encyclopedia of Istanbul, the church of St Demetrios was rebuilt in 1798. It was repaired in 1820 and 1832, burned in 1919 and was renovated in 1940–1943. Beside it lies the holy spring of St Demetrios, reached through a long tunnel in the rock; its feast is celebrated on 26 October.
