The church of the Transfiguration of Christ in Kandilli already existed in the 18th century and was rebuilt in 1810, after a fire. Its feast day is 6 August.

It is a three-aisled basilica of about 20 × 13 metres, with a pitched roof, a wooden narthex on the west and an apse on the east. The aisles are separated by two rows of six columns joined by arches. Above the arches are small depictions of the apostles, the semi-dome of the apse is decorated with stars, and the ambo bears the four Evangelists around Christ.
