The school was built on land donated to the Greek Orthodox community of Galata, in a neoclassical-eclectic style, and opened on 2 June 1910. In 1958, when the main road was widened, the street level in front of the facade was lowered and the building had to be altered.

Teaching stopped in 1988; in 2000–2007 the building served as a kindergarten, and in 2015 the school formally ceased to operate as a school. Restoration of the building began in 2019 under the auspices of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, and it now operates as a venue for culture, the arts and education.
