The school was housed in various buildings in Fener until 1803, moved to Kuruçeşme (Xirokrini) in 1804, returned to Fener in 1825, operated again in Kuruçeşme from 1837 to 1849 and has since been permanently settled in Fener. The present red-brick building above the Golden Horn was built in the early 1880s; its large dome was used as an observatory.

The school follows the full Turkish curriculum and additionally teaches Greek language, literature and religion. In September 2025 the Istanbul education directorate notified the school that the historic building needs earthquake strengthening without students or staff present, and the school announced its temporary relocation.
