The church stands in a large walled courtyard near the Büyükdere ferry pier and belongs to the Metropolis of Derkoi. The present masonry church was built on the site of an earlier one that had been destroyed by fire. R. E. Koçu’s İstanbul Ansiklopedisi dates it to 1831, while during the restoration work of December 2013 the date 1830 was found on a stone of the façade.

It is a rectangular basilica with a narthex, nave, gallery, sanctuary and a semicircular apse, built of cut stone and brick. In the mid-20th century the church had no bell tower and its bell hung from a tree in the courtyard. The courtyard also contains a clergy house, administrative buildings, a cemetery and a holy spring (agiasma).
