The foundation bears the names of three churches on Büyükada (Prinkipo): the Virgin Mary, Saint Demetrius and the Prophet Elias. The present church of Saint Demetrius was completed in 1856. It was badly damaged in the 1999 earthquake and restored in 2010.

Next to Saint Demetrius stands the Greek primary school of Büyükada, founded in 1850. Its first, wooden building burned down in 1911 and was replaced by the present masonry building. The community church of the Virgin Mary is dedicated to the Dormition of the Theotokos; it is also known as Panagia Eleousa, after a historic double-sided icon kept there.
