The Greek Orthodox community of Stavrodromi (Pera) built its first church, of the Presentation of the Virgin, in 1804, the church of Saints Constantine and Helen in 1861 and the church of the Holy Trinity in 1880. The Holy Trinity church in Taksim, the community’s parish church, was consecrated on 14 September 1880. It replaced an earlier wooden church of Saint George, which stood where the Zappeion girls’ school is today. The church has two symmetrical bell towers on its front and a large dome.

The Holy Trinity church was badly damaged during the events of September 1955. After a renovation of about two years, it was formally reopened on 23 March 2003.
