The church stands in Dolapdere, at the foot of Tatavla. In 1857 residents of the neighbourhood founded a small wooden church on this site, which was replaced by the present church built between 1877 and 1893.
It is a cross-plan church with a raised central dome, two bell towers and a central clock tower, in an eclectic style with Gothic elements. Next to the entrance is the holy spring (ayazma) of the Theotokos. The church was fully restored in 2023–2024 and was reconsecrated for worship on 27 October 2024.
