The church is dedicated to the Dormition of the Virgin and stands in the Köyiçi quarter, in the centre of Beşiktaş. The present building was rebuilt between 1828 and 1833, with major changes from the earlier church. It is a three-aisled basilica of plastered stone masonry; above the entrance to the nave is a commemorative inscription of 1833 with a carved scene of the Dormition. The church is surrounded by school buildings, and its courtyard is paved with a traditional pebble mosaic.
