The earliest written references to the church date from 1796, while the present building was constructed in 1830. The church was formerly attached to the Iviron Monastery on Mount Athos, which paid for its repair. A full restoration was completed in 2026, during which the women’s gallery and the internal staircase were rebuilt and the pews repaired. The restored church was reopened with a consecration service on 27 September 2026, with the Ecumenical Patriarch presiding.
