The church stands in the historic quarter of Langa (Vlanga), in today’s Yenikapı in the Fatih district. Around 1648 it was rebuilt after a fire, with the permission of Sultan İbrahim I; the original building was older. According to an inscription above the west entrance, the present building was rebuilt on 20 December 1830, after another fire.

It is a three-aisled basilica on an east–west axis with a carved wooden iconostasis, set in a courtyard enclosed by high walls. The courtyard also contains the building of the Greek primary school of Langa, community offices and a holy spring (ayazma) of Saint Theodore, while the bell tower rises on its east side.
